Edge Pro angle for AR...

Well, I did it. I used the the marker method and my Edge Pro Apex to find the blade angle on my AR. It came out to about a 50 degree included angle or a little over 24 degrees on the Edge Pro. The S30V AR blade is pretty easy to sharpen, a little harder than 154-CM. I kept the blade at the stock angle.

I wonder how the S30V AR blade would do at a 40 degree included angle. It sure would be nice to be able to use my Sharpmaker for quick touch ups...

Have you tried to use the sharpmaker on your AR yet? The sharpmaker is the only sharpening device that I own, so I would be interested in hearing if this works out for you.

I haven't tried using the Sharpmaker on my AR. To use the Sharpmaker, I'd have to re-profile the blade from the 24 degrees (48 degree included angle) it is now to the 20 degrees (40 degree included angle) of the Sharpmaker.

Mick ground my AR at 24 degrees, not 20 degrees. If he thinks that's the optimum angle for it, it must be the optimum angle for it. I trust him.

At 24 degrees, it shaves just fine. It will probably hold an edge longer at 24 degrees than 20. After I thought about it for awhile, I decided that the extra time spent on the Edge Pro is worth it.

BTW, if you decide to re-profile your AR with a Sharpmaker, be prepared to spend some time doing so. I re-profiled a Benchmade with my Sharpmaker once, and it took a LONG time...

How were your results with the Edge Pro? I've got one also, but haven't sharpened my AR yet. I can get a scary sharp edge on my Sebenza with it. I would assume the same for the AR?
Have you ever tried using a strop for quick touch ups? I think I might try it. Many of the Busse owners use that method for all but a major re-sharpening.

The Edge Pro works like a dream. I got a scary sharp edge on my AR with it. I've never had much success with a strop.
