Edge Pro Apex & BM710 question.

I have the excellent Edge Pro Apex with stone upgrade kit. I really fancy a Benchmade 710 HSSR, with the 710 HS as a distant second choice.

My question: Does the recurve on the 710 compromise anyone's ability to sharpen the 710 with an Apex?

My selection of the 710 HSSR was partly to do with the fact that the serrations would render sharpening the most awkward part of the blade unnecessary.

I have a Camillus EDC in Talonite and the recurve on that knife makes the "handle end" of the blade impossible to sharpen with the Apex.

Any insights, please?

Any of the V-rod systems such as the Sharpmaker are much easier to use when sharpening a recurved blade. The trick with the Sharpmaker is to use only the corners of the stones, not the flats. I've never failed to get a good edge on my recurved blades with it.

For what it's worth, I sharpened a 710 a couple of times on my EP with no problems. I did move the knife a little to keep it aligned properly and bevel wasn't perfectly even, from a visual standpoint, but arm hairs were no match for it when I was through ;)

I've sharpened my Kershaw Boa on my Apex, and it does the job very well. The Boa has the most extreme recurve on any blade I've worked with, quite a bit more than a 710, so it's certainly possible. As Classified00 said, you have to move the blade to keep the edge aligned, and it does take a lot longer than a straight blade, but it can be done.

I too have used the Edgepro Professional to sharpen my 710hs. No problem getting it hair poppin' sharp along the whole length of the blade. The recurve doesn't sem to present a problem, at least for me
