Edge Pro Apex Copied??

Very similar but two important differences which, IMHO, make it inferior to the Edgepro.

1. It's handheld, the edgepro being free standing.

2. They appear to be oil stones as opposed to the Edgepro's water stones.

.

Actually the Schrade is both, it can be handheld as it comes with the optional grip attatchment and also it has "legs" for a free standing ability. Look at the first picture. It can be set up on a table like the Apex.

As for the stones, I agree, Im sure that the Edge Pro stones are far superior. Not sure what kind of stones the Schrade set-up uses.

In doing a search, I have found the "Advant-Edge" on sale for $29.00 at various places. Pretty economical price.

It cant compare to the Apex in quality at that price tag!

Biggest difference is that the blade is clamped in place!! And it looks like you have to unclamp/reclamp it when you flip it over. Can you say "pain in the arse"?

It reminds me of everything I hated about the Lansky system, and then takes it up a notch. Just makes the EdgePro look that much better, though.

I agree. The clamping and unclamping passed right by me at first. That means you would have to replace the blade EXACTLY the same way in the clamp every time or lose the consistancy that the clamp on system was designed for in the first place.

Not good at all.

The low price will ensure they sell a lot of these units and that is what they are trying to do.

is it worth the extra $200?

Yes. The EdgePro is simply the very best non-powered sharpening device made.

I think most EdgePro users have made some additions or modifications to the stones they use, adding strops, different grit films, different stones, etc., but there is no denying that the sum total gives an absolutely perfect edge quickly and easily.

Interesting. Does anyone know how it compares to the Wicked Edge system?

Several people have compared the two. Most people do think both sharpen equally well, but that the EdgePro wins out for versatility and portability. The WickedEdge needs to be mounted onto a rather heavy platform to be able to use it. The company sells a marble slab to be used for that purpose. The EdgePro just needs to sit on a table or shelf.
