Today the UPS guy brought me my Edge Pro Apex pro kit with all the stones, polishing tapes, ceramic steel, etc. This joins my Eze-sharp, Sharpmaker, mousepads/sandpaper, water stones, plate glass with paper, and various strops.....what's next lmao.

I used the edge pro to reprofile a new Rat-3 down to 26 degrees included. The D2 is tough, the 120 grit edge pro stone ate it for lunch. What a mess, but oh boy does that stone cut. It cuts almost as fast as a bastard cut mill file on my eze-sharp. The mess entailed was crazy though. Good thing I had everything set up in a baking dish. I like the Edge pro fairly well, it is easier to be consistant than the eze-sharp because you can keep the edge 90 degrees to the stone....I will post more as I use it more.

Oh ya and I have a small belt grinder. I guess I am sharpening obsessed...is there anything that I need that I don't have yet????LMAO (just kidding, I think I must have over 1k invested in sharpening equipment lol)

Next you need big expensive japanese natural waterstones, a set of shaptons (with the diamond reference plate, of course), & a set of DMT diamond plates. This will be a couple more grand (or more depending on the natural stones you get).

After this you can start on getting real nice powered sharpening equipment (couple grand more).

there is no end....

It is a disease...I do have the DMT plates, but my waterstones are just the Norton synthetic 220,1000,4000,8000. For my woodworking tools (even more of a passion than my knives) I really want to get the lee valley platter sharpening system....it would provide a quick way to get basic profiling done before hitting the waterstones. I also have numerous folding diamond hones in the pouches of all my larger knives and it a few other places as well.....If my wife finds out exactly how much stuff I have related to guns/knives/woodworking, and how much I have paid for it over the years, I have to hope it is because I am dead and she is having an estate sale...cause if I am still alive, and she finds out, it won't be long and the estate sale would have to happen anyway lmao.

For me the Edge Pro, Sharpmaker, and stropping block (on order) will be it for knife maintenance needs. I don't have a lot of knives and the ones I have are not very specialized. The Edge Pro was crazy money that I dropped on it but I am very happy with the results it produces. The Sharpmaker takes care of my general sharpening needs. I ordered the optional diamond and ultra fine rods for the Sharpmaker to complete my sharpening needs.

Having $1K in sharpening equipment makes a lot more sense to me than having a safe full of knives that have never been sharpened. :)

I can honestly say that every one of my knives gets used at least once in awhile. In one view, that would seem stupid, as one would think that you would want to get a core group, and become super proficient with them. In the other, It is fun to try out different knives using different methods of doing things. All that being said, I do have six or seven knives that see 80% of all my knife time, but I don't have any safe queens in the knife department. I do have one safe queen pistol, but I got it unfired for a song, and it's worth too much to shoot and ruin the value.

There's always that Sharpton glass block system. Of course, the price for the hones is kinda astronomical.

Today I sharpened my scrapper six on the Edgepro all the way through the 3000 grit tapes then stropped with CrO2. I was very happy with the results. It will now shave arm hair so smoothly that you can pass the knife 1/8" above the skin, and the hairs pop off with you barely even feeling a pull on your skin....Wow!!! all that with an angle of 21 degrees per side.
