This sharpening system seems to the greatest thing since sliced bread... Any fourmites have experience with it? I would think many of you might. Thanks.

Im curious. A little hesitant about miracle sharpening systems, though.
I use stones and a sandpaper paddle. I'm getting some diamond hones when I can.

The Apex is a great system, but not for khuks. They're too big and work best with a convex edge. I used a rubber sanding block with various sandpaper grits to sharpen until recently, now I have a sander. :D Really the sander is best for such a big blade, but the sanding block works well too. It's just slow.

huh... just typed this all up and it dissapeared when i pressed submit :(

the one thing i wish i had done more then anything in my knife buying so far was buy the pro model of the edgepro system. and if i had a lot of extra money at the moment, i would do it in a heart beat.

it really is an amazing system for putting a striaght bevel on a knife, as well as a finished edge. if you want to do a convex edge, you pretty much have to put several bevels on it (40, 35, 30, 28, 24, 21) and then smooth it out with sand paper.

i have done several of my khukuries with it, including an 18" ang knola and a 20" sirupati. you have to work with them though, as the blade gemoetry doesnt allow you to keep a consistent edge angle, the curve and tip being thicker then the sweet spot. on my 20" siru, the tip and curve were around 45-50 degrees where as the sweet spot was 24. any more acute at the curve would have meant that i would have been seriously digging into the main grind, creating an edge bevel that was something like an inch wide.

i feel confident that i could put a consistent bevel on my 44" gelbu special style monster khukuri, but it would be a constant struggle to keep it stable. when it gets near the curve, you have to rest the blade in the crook of your arm, same for the tip area. youd pretty much have to set up books to keep the handle/tip elevated and level when sharpening the extreme ends of the edge.

its difficult, but it gives you a very consisten edge. being able to sharpen a khukuri withough a sharpening system is a valueable skill to have though, as with all other knife styles

I've got one and have sharpened my small khuk on it before. I have been thinking about gluing a mouse pad to one of the blanks (the ones for using the polishing tapes) and putting several grits of sandpaper over that. Seems like it would work but right now I only have the one blank (which I kinda use) so I haven't tried it.

That's a great idea. I have an Edgepro and love it, haven't tried a khukuri yet though.

im not sure if they even sell the blanks, but you could always buy an extra stone, and take the stone off of it

and if nothing else you could always just tape the front and back end of it onto the blank, and make sure not to use the full stroke

that is a really good idea by the way.

He sells the blanks so you can buy EZ-lap's diamond stones to sharpen ceramic knives with. But I seem to think they were like 10 bucks.

Hi Guys
the blanks are available, even sent them to New Zealand no problem. He is a class act all round.
