Interested in views regarding the Edge Pro Apex. Any other sharpening devices that are better? While nothing is fool proof, this looks like it has a favorable learning curve.

I love mine, it is pretty much responsible for teaching me what I was capable of doing. My freehand sharpening skills benefitted from it as well.

Check out the maintenance and tinkering forum for a lot of edge pro threads. They are considered the top of the line sharpener by many.

It's top of the line if you want nice-looking flat-bevel edges. Otherwise stones are a good alternative. Even if you have the EdgePro, you'd want either a fine-grit stone or a loaded strop for quick touch-ups.

I love my Edge Pro, it's one awesome sharpener.

Thanks for the responses. Thanks, sodak. I was wondering if it would help improve freehand skills. Learning retrograde ....so to speak.

Simply put, the EdgePro is the best hand-powered sharpening system on the market today. It will sharpen any length blade evenly without needing to change clamps on a blade, it will sharpen any angle you wish to use, and you can take the edge to virtually any degree of fineness you want to have. If you're happy with 320 grit, stop there. If you want 4,000 grit stop there. I like 15,000 with polishing tapes then continuing with CrO2 on a blank, and finishing with a good quality leather strop on a blank mounted in the EdgePro arm. Nothing on the market today give a more perfect edge. I love mine and am happy I invested the money to buy it!
That being said, I also use my Sharpmaker for touch-ups, my DMT Aligner for backpacking, and sandpaper on a mousepad for convex edges...

The best manual sharpening system I have ever used. I think I've used all of them so that would make it the best in my view.

I consider it the best manual sharpener available today. I "upgraded" to the PRO, but in all honesty, it won't do anything that the APEX won't do just as well. The Pro is just a little easier to use and more convenient.

Every once in a while you find a genuine bargain that's actually worth more than you pay for it. The Edge-Pro fits that description, IMHO!:thumbup:

And one of the best things about it is that it really doesn't take long at all to reprofile (Even out) an edge even if you have to remove a lot of metal.

That coarse stone will really move metal now boys. :D
