I have some dull blades needing sharpening , and I don't want to waste time and money send them to manufacturer to do it , so I'm looking to get into the sharpening business

I saw a lot of recommendations on this Apex system , but since I have little amount of experience and lousy hands , I want your opinions on whether or not this system is the right choice for me

Please let me know what you think
Thanks

I tried just about everything there is before I got the Edge Pro Apex. I got fair results with the Spyderco Sharpmaker, but the Edge Pro is the first system that allows me to easily reprofile, to make knives shaving sharp again, and to do it reliably. I love it, it's easy to set up and put away again. It's even fun, so much so that I've resharpened all my wife's kitchen knives too. Highly recommended.

With the Apex, do you keep the knife stationary and move the stones across the blade, or do you move the knife side to side as you are sharpening?

EdgePro is, without a doubt, the best hand powered sharpening system made today.
But you said you want to start a business. If you're going to sharpen a lot of knives every day you'd probably want to go with a powered system such as paper wheels. They are good for doing a lot of knives quickly. It what someone who needs to sharpen daily, has a workshop set up, and needs the speed that powered systems give, would use.

If you're only going to be sharpening a few knives every so often, then there is nothing better than the EdgePro Apex.
Ricklee, the stones move over the knives, which sit comfortably on a stationary platform. It takes about 15-20 minutes to take a really dull knife to the highest degree of sharpening perfection, at any angle you desire. 30 minutes if you relax and enjoy the process. :)
It's easy to use right out of the box, taking only a few minutes and an old practice knife to get used to it. It folds up into its own storage bag so you can stick it in a drawer between uses. Its only drawback is the price.

For considerably less money you can get a Spyderco Sharpmaker. This too is fast and very easy to use, but limits you to two angle settings. For more versatility, look at the DMT Aligner system. This is a VERY effective device and low in cost!

I've used the Edge Pro Apex 4 for quite awhile and cannot say enough about it. This is the way to go to get those scary sharp edges if you take the time and do it right. I also have a paper wheel set up and it does Ok for quick edges but nothing compares to the polished edge the Edge Pro puts on a blade. My advice is if you're going to make your own blades or be a hard user of a knife, this unit is by far the best sharpening tool on the market.
