Hey guys.

I've had a Tormek T-3 since last summer. It's a nice sharpening system, I can achieve a hair whittling edge with it. Alas, it sucks for sharpening recurves or serrations. As I see it, it's meant for sharpening woodworking tools i.e. carving knives, chisels... Not tactical and EDC knives.

So I've been thinking about getting an Edge Pro Apex. Is that a good idea?

I think so. The Tormek creates a concave edge, which is less durable than the flat grinds the Edge Pro creates. You can do relief grinds with the Edge Pro also. I have seen postings from people who have said the Edge Pro edges are actually sharper than the Tormek. You can sharpen recurves with the 1/2" stones and serrations with taping a piece of cardboard to the table (and sharpening the back side of the serrations). I'd keep the Tormek for major repairs and reprofiling, though.

Hi Ben. I must say I really, really like the Edge Pro. Those mirror finishes are beautiful!
However, I've decided to get a Spyderco Sharpmaker. I guess there won't be any cool mirror finished edges and quick re-profiling, but I think ordering the tapes and stones would be a pain in the ass since I live in Europe.
