I've owned apex about two weeks. After some practicing the results are quite good. What really bugs me is that the stones are hitting the plastic base occasionally (when sharpening a tip of a blade) and the base does'nt look too good anymore. Any suggestions?
First thing is to get the stop collar and learn to use it.
The stones wear at different rates. In order to get exactly the same angle for each stone, you either have to use a sharpie or the stop collar. The collar is a lot easier. Go to youtube and check out videos by jdavis882 (crimsontideshooter here on BF). He has some good videos on the EP Apex.
Other than that, spend plenty of time with each stone, before moving to the next.
You might also pick up a strop or two that's made specifically for the EP.
