I bought a set of these plates from 140 to 1200. Do you need to use a lapping fluid on these? I have been using them dry and the 140 has seemed to slow down maybe just normal after break in usage?

There are lots of ways to clean them. Your best bet is to watch a few videos, try a few and find which one is best for you. Try it and I will bet that you will see increased performance in your 140 stone. And BTW, I also use mine dry, but water can be used as well. Just don't use oil. Here is a sample video and there are lots more out there.

I don't have Atoma stones. I'm too cheap. :-) I've got CKTGs in 140 and 400 grit, plus I have the fine, x-fine, and u-fine stones that Edge Pro used to sell.
IMO, diamond stones on the EP need to have a little bit of water for lubrication. (WD-40 works too, as does Windex.)
Pressure needs to be kept very light as well, or you will knock some of the diamonds right off of the stone, especially on the coarse stones.
Ben Dale says it's best to use diamonds with the EP only on very hard steels, as the diamonds are prone to digging into softer steels and shearing off. My own experience agrees with Ben.
That said, even with proper lube and light pressure you'll see a slight fall-off in the performance of your coarse diamond stones with use.

I find the best way to clean my Edge Pro stones is to use silicone carbide..all you need it's a little pinch..lay your stone (face down) on the carbide, rub the stone counter clockwise, then clockwise. Only takes about a minute or so and your stone/s will look like new. Be warned though this also over time essentially "grinds" your stones down. But hell I imagine it would take years for you to hit the back plate.

That's for cleaning/lapping the regular stones... the original post is about diamond stones.
