Into a little hacking, to improve something you already have?

If you have an Edge Pro, I or II or clone, you can make this hack with diamond stones sold at Harbor Freight.

Now, you do not need to change stones on each grit, just rotate 90 degrees, and keep on. Spin, spin, spin, spin, and done.

Just a word of warning, those HF diamond blocks are not at all flat, you can put some work into them and flatten them but be advised.

Not hating on them, infact I use one (I flattened first) to flatten my ceramin stones when needed, I've also gifted several of them to fiends who needed a set of stones, for $13 their great, just say'n.

Wouldn't you strip the diamonds out when flattening it and cut into the substrate under the diamonds? Or are there lumps of diamonds on the surface?

Interesting concept. I personally would be afraid I wouldn't be able to see the knife at all when sharpening. How is your experience with it so far?

About the same day I hacked this, I moved on to other sharpeners I like better.

For very small knifes, that large block would dwarf your work. That is true. I sharpened about six knives with this, and it did speed up my work flow. Bigger area, and diamonds.

Tomorrow the FedEx guy drops off a Jet Wet Sander. Fun trying new things.

The three in my signature, are my favorite systems, so far.

So the edge pro didn't make the list? Did you ever use the edge pro without the mods?

Yes, I have a dozen knives sharpened with one of the two of them. Not a fan of doing things left handed. I prefer a clamp jig, rather than a apparatus like the Edge Pro. Just me.

My mind is limited. I cannot figure out of I like something without trying it. I tried them, and I may try them again sometime, but I think other systems work better for me.

I am revamping the KME to hold larger stones. I will like that once it is built. (I think)

Thanks, I appreciate your answer.

Most blades are attracted to magnets. How would it work to have several powerful magnets located under the blade platform on the edge pro?

I will try that today, to see if that helps hold the blade in the correct position.

How helpful would it be if you could set a blade in an edge pro, and have it stay put? Seems like it would be a big plus.

You have some great ideas nra... What is your background? :-) Keep us posted!

They already sell a magnet for the edge pro. Most people just tape the magnet under the blade table. I have one and it can be helpful but I don't use it all the time.

That hack has already been done and put on youtube -- over a year ago. I found that video and did the same thing. It works great! I also use an Angle Cube with the drill stop collar to set whatever angle I want.

I hate to go off topic, but, is that a fountain in your living room?

Edit. That's not your living room is it?

Retail store I own. Years ago, an employee got pissed at me, and the fountain got painted pink. I work mainly with women, so I left it.

That's funny. From the pics, I would have thought it was a faded red. Thanks for sharing.
