For those of you that don't know, Edge Pro, Inc. are conducting free sharpening demos on knives submitted to them. Well, I sent my CRKT M21-14 less than a week ago and this is the finished product.

In advance, I'd like to apologize for the not-so-great pictures. I have a crappy Kodak EasyShare C613 digital camera and I can only get in so close before the AF fails and the pictures come out fuzzy. (I'm also not a genius when it comes to "sizing" up the pictures for this site. But if you scroll on top of the photo itself, it should balloon up for you.)

My CRKT in full frame:

Concentrating on the blade:

Close-up of the plain edge portion. I love how the flash beautifully reflects off the mirror finish of the edge:

Excellent, crisp pic of the mirrior-polished edge:

The new edge on the flat side of the previously chisel gound blade (I requested a reprofiling to a new double edge.)

One last pic...I tried to capture my camera's reflection but I shook the camera too much (oh well)

When they sent me the knife back, they enclosed a letter explaining the work they did on the blade. I thought some of you would appreciate what they wrote:

"Matt,

I was able to put a 17-degree bevel on the taper side of the knife. Now the primary bevel is 21-degrees and equal on both sides. There is still a small dull spot at the tip that I could not get out. However, I do think it will come out in the next 2 to 3 sharpenings if you focus on it. I sharpened the knife near the edge so the knife was tilted toward the stone so the machine was set at 21-degrees for the second bevel and 25-degrees for the primary, but the actual angles on the knife are 17-degrees & 21-degrees.

I started with a 220 and went through to 1000. Then polished with a 3000 tape. It took about 15 mins.

Hope you like it,
Ben"

How's that for customer service, a hand written note explaining exactly what they did!!

Well, as expected, the knife is razor sharp unlike anything I've ever experienced. Edge Pro has definitely made a believer out of me!!

Now that's some excellent service there. Albeit for promotional purposes but still very nice.

The more I read about the Edge Pro, the more tempted I am to get one. I'm guessing I can only hold out for another month or so before I give in...

Try using a little more indirect light and the "Macro" feature. It looks like a little flower. It may be on the dial, or it may be on a directional key or something. Macro is for closeup pics. I went from a 1.5 mp fuji 800$ cam(when they came out) to a panasonic LZ2 5mp up to a DSLR and i have a DSLR like 5mp cam which is a nikon. It's not so much about the cam as it is if you know how to use it. Just play around, read the manual. The pics aren't bad. Oh, and try not to use digital zoom if you can, all it does is crop the picture and magnify it, it's not a true "zoom". If you need any help feel free to PM me. Now back on topic. I've been interested in edge pro sharpeners, that just made me want to go buy one now!

That good CS isn't just ptomotional. You can buy one and rest asured that they will take care of you. I have had mine for about a year and any time I need something out of the ordinary (read: can't be found at one of their distributors) they have hooked me up. I have gotten to the point that I deal exclusively, directly with Edge Pro

If you like the edge, and have the coin, you should get one. You can learn to sharpen that well, that quickly in almost no time.

I don't currently own the Pro Edge and I'm not the most skilled at flat stones and stropping, polishing, etc. so until I get the Pro Edge myself, I'm not going to be able to maintain the precise angles and mirror polish.

I do own an Arkansas stone, the Smith alignment sharpening system, and the Spyderco Sharpmaker, my favorite being the Sharpmaker (SM). However, since the SM has fixed angles of 15-degrees and 20 degrees per side, I'm inevitably going to lose the precision that Pro Edge put on it. The good news is that the CRKT isn't really a major part of my EDC rotation so I'll be able to hold off on using the blade, thereby preserving the new edges a little longer.

It is beautiful.
