I am thinking of asking for an Edge pro sharpener for Xmas. (yes my wife loves me this much). But when looking on Ebay I found chinese knock offs for under $30? Anybody have any dealings with these. Also Shrade had a knock off that looked comparable. I am in favor of the edge pro, but was thinking of the knock off as a (at work sharpener).

Thanks
Matt

Let's see....an Edge Pro runs about 200 bucks.

How is a 30 dollar Chinese knock off version?

Probably not very good. :)

Yeah, I realize the quality isn't the same on the stones. But lets face it the Edge pro is plastic as well. I haven't personally handled the either, and I'm really curious if the knock offs would take the better stones? If I had an Edge pro , I would probably spend the $30 on the knock off just to see if It would be a secondary sharpener at work. I'm big on quality, but am quick to realize these days that half the stuff we pay top $ for based on craftmanship comes from the same chinese manufacturer...

Great point on the Shaprmaker..it would be a much better secondary sharpener.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that the real deal Edge Pro's are made in the US, not in China. Mine, at least, is signed by the manufacturer with the date of production.

If you wanted a sharpener for when you are at work, I'd recommend some of the Spyderco ceramic pocket stones. Learning to touch up the edge freehand is easy enough to learn and it may lead to improving your freehand skills overall. They also run around $25-30 for the double stuff one that has both the medium and fine stones.

I have one of the knock off edge pro`s and it works pretty well. Im sure the stones are not the same quality but there good for the price. I bought the cheep one to see if i would like the edge pro over the wicked edge but after using it for awhile i went with the wicked edge..
