I recently found an edge pro knockoff selling on ebay for about $40 shipped from china. I found these after typing "angle sharpener" into ebay (some of them are advertised as a "sharpenner". lol) I'm not terribly familiar with the edge pro system but to my untrained eye they look very similar. Is anyone familiar with these sharpeners? are they any good at all? can you use the edge pro stones on the clones? I need a fixed angle system for re-beveling but i'm too poor for the edge pro at the moment and i'm wondering if this clone would be better than a lanksy.

Please do not turn this into a discussion about the ethics of knockoffs. I am only looking for some info on this system.

They're crap, worth about half of what they ask for 'em.

They are not nearly as large or robust, the construction is far poorer and the accuracy is not nearly as repeatable. The stones are NOT interchangeable. I'd get a DMT magna-guide LONG before I'd buy one of those.

Aside from the bit where they're ripping off a GOOD guy without any permission or anything else. That kind of behavior is reprehensible. Even if it was the same damned thing, I wouldn't buy it from them.

Do you speak from personal experience with the device? I'm sure most of what you say is true. Indubitably this knockoff is worse than the original and I wouldn't expect anything different. But is it a usable machine? I like the edge pro design a lot more than the lansky and if it worked all right it would be nice for a quick re-bevel. I'm not looking for something with micron tolerances. I just need to be able to set a good angle, not necessarily produce a polished edge or anything.

Sorry to disappoint you.

We do not allow discussion of rip off clones any longer at BFC. Why would anyone want to support disgusting thieves who profit from the efforts of others?
