Just wondering if any one has tried this? I got the medium and fine 1X5 in Spyderco flat stones. I'm gonna glue the to Edge Pro blanks as soon as they come in on order now should be here by Wend. Has anyone given this a try? I was thinking it would be good for a quick touch up, same as the Sharpmaker but any angle. Let me know what you think. Will post back when all set up.

Yes, it works. I mounted an ultra-fine 1x5 3 or 4 years ago and use it as the last step at 2 degrees more acute than the primary bevel. Just a few light strokes...

Wouldn't that just hit the shoulder?

I've been thinking about mounting a translucent arkansas slip stone to a blank. I think it would be sweet on my carbon blades. Right now I finish with a 1500 grit ceramic.

I glued a piece of honed porcelain tile to a blank. It works OK, but I don't use it often.

I'm in the tile business and recently some manufacturers have introduced a 1/8" thick tile. A little time on my DMT diamond plate to smooth it and it seems to be equivalent to 1,000 to 2,000.

I also have used the Harbor Freight diamond 2 x 6 plates in my EP. Pretty good for course work.

I was going to grab some of those HF plates, but the ones I looked at all looked bowed. Maybe I'll grab a set anyway. I actually like the block for lots of stuff, just not fine sharpening.

For $10, you won't be out much if they don't do what you want.

For my EP stones I use a spring to hold them in place, but for the HF diamonds, I made a tube that's a little longer than the one that comes with it. It holds much better than the spring or EP tube. If you don't have the tools to make a tube to size, a few washers may do the job.

Oops. 2 degrees less acute. If my primary bevel is 20 degrees, I'll finish the edge at 22 degrees with the UF ceramic stone.

I have the Spyderco stones set up. I used a POS beater knife with a messed up edge to try them out and break in the stones.

After some work.[/SIZE]

Turned out to work well. The stones kinda clog up quick. But for touching up an edge it will work great.

One of the great things about the EP. You get to experiment.

Did you use them wet or dry?

Grab some Bar Keepers Friend for when they really clog. Truly great (and cheap!) stuff for ceramics.

I have been using Bar Keepers Friend to clean my Sharpmaker stones for a long time. I did clean them when done with this since they were so gummed up. But for a touch up I wouldn't clean them unless doing more than a few knives.

Where do you get these? I can't seem to find them. Thanks

I got mine at Knife Center. But the stones can be found a few places Blade HQ I think has them. The blanks I got at knife center but chef knives to go has them. I just glued the stones on the blanks with some waterproof superglue.

Thanks man. I don't even have an EP yet, but it's in the works. I also am a big fan of Spyderco stones. I own several, as well as a SM. These are a neccesity.
