So I just got An edge pro apex4 and was curious if I need to keep the stones in water or not.

Also, While I'm posting this thread I Might as well ask another question. What are the best aftermarket stones to get.

Thank you gents.

Some people keep them in water. I find that soaking for 10-15 minutes prior to using is enough. I have also experienced that keeping the stones in water permanently can sometimes cause the glue to let the stones loose.

I don't have any experience with choseras but they are considered very good. Atomas also get good press. I dunno if sigma power stones are available for the EP but I saw one guy using it on his EP. These are pretty pricey though.

Exactly what I needed to know. Thank you!

I have the Chosera's from CKTG and they are worth every penny. The Chosera's should not be stored in water, though.

I have the Ohmura 150 for grinding (great stone, but wears fast!), the EP 220 + 400 and the entire Chosera stone set.
I gotta say that the EP stones work very well for their grit level, although that grit-scale is different from Chosera's.
I just mean that the EP stones work great too and that there is nothing wrong with them.
The Ohmura 150 stone is truly awesome and grinds metal like butter, but it is VERY hard to flatten on sandpaper and it wear super-fast.
After fixing a slightly chipped chef's knife I could already see a clear concavity on the stone; so, it is expensive and short-lived, but very, very good.
