Edge Pro "On Demand" Table Magnet

David, did you have a hand in this? I suspected that you might but I didn't want to presume...

Nope, that is all Ben. I have been playing with magnets for a long time but my ideas are different.

That's pretty cool. I've noticed the magnet I'm using is strong enough to pull the whole arm, especially thinner stones and polish tapes, causing me to use more pressure than I'd like too. This would solve that problem completely.

Too bad it isn’t available for the professional.

A proposal.
  1. Get a NB053-TH2 or NB073-N48 bar magnet.
  2. Deep drill two aligned holes directly into the front face of the Edge Pro blade table.
  3. Epoxy two studs to the bar magnet that press-fit the holes you drilled.
  4. Push on the bar magnet when you want it; pull it off when you don't.

Arm on what? All the EP stone holder stuff is nonmagnetic.

Yeah that's odd, I could swear I feel some kind of magnetic effect when drawing the arm back towards me since it felt "sticky" trying to use really light pressure. Maybe its the steel quick change spring, I don't know.

Interesting thread...nice to be able to use or NOT use the magnet when desired. I can't think of a time, however, when I wished that the magnet was not "there."

I've been using this magnet for several yrs without a problem. It holds any knife that I have just fine, and is strong enuf to hold the blade securely with only light hand pressure. For about six bucks, I love it.

Keep in mind that if your blade becomes magentized all of the ground metal filings will stick to it and can be hard to remove. Personally I really hate magentized tools that cause tiny springs and pins to stick to the tool.
