the title says it all. Should I spend the extra cash and get the edge pro or go for the edge apex and save some money?

I have an Edge Pro Apex. It's been fantastic, and I've never encountered a situation that made me think "man, I wish I'd gone with the Pro instead". So one vote for the Apex.

Yea it really looks pretty awesome and I keep thinking that I could get the base model Pro or get the fully loaded Apex for cheaper.

If you are going to buy the kit, get the complete kit. You are going to quickly find yourself needing the complete kit in order to reprofile and sharpen knives correctly.

I have the Edge Pro Apex 4 (full kit) and it is excellent. I am pretty sure the pro model is meant for just that. Professional use. If you are going to be using it in a fixed location for daily use. Even if you are a collector with a lot of knives , the Apex system is very sufficient.

The Pro model is basically intened for knifemakers and other industrial applications. Kind of a waste if you just want to sharpen yoir knives at home. The product description on their site should answer all your questions.

I spent a lot of time trying to make that decision. I finally concluded that the Pro didn't have anything I needed that the Apex didn't have, and this was really a case where "you get what you pay for" didn't apply. So I went with the Apex, and I'm very happy with it.

Another vote for the Apex. The extra money for the pro-version versus the Apex 4 kit is money that could go towards knives you could sharpen on the Apex.

+1, or even better would be an extra 150 grit stone...You are going to need it ;)
