I have a new Edge Pro Apex with the Shapton stones...freakin awesome. Near razor edges in no time.

My question is to any Edge Pro users: What do you use to stabilize the suction cups?
I don't want to spend the money on the glass circle thing that is advertised to lap the stones. Won't need it. I have a different way of doing that.
I tried a glass baking dish. Worked, but too cumbersome with the sides of the dish.
Thinking about marble pastry board, but heavy and hard to transport.
Any wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

In the past when I have needed just a chunk of glass I go to my local window and mirror shop. They always have scraps of glass or can even take glass from an old window and cut it to size then for a few bucks they will sand and round off the edges off. You could even get some of that rubber trim lok edge molding stuff to put around the edges that would help keep the glass from sliding around and at the same time hold any water and what not that comes off your sharpening stones or whatever. Is something like this what your looking for?

I just went and looked at the Edge Pro site and what I'm talking about looks like pretty much the same thing they are selling. I bet you could do what I'm talking about though and probably be out around $10 to $15 just depending on what kind of stores you have in your area.

I work in manufacturing and have stainless plate around. A small square of stainless works well and gives weight to keep everything steady. Im a clutz and would break the glass.

Another option would be to remove the suction cups and mount it to a board or something similar.

My solution was simple. Ceramic cook top on my stove. Plenty of light from the hood, lots of counter space and always within arms reach of a snack. :D

You sir, are a man after my own heart!:D:thumbup:

BTW, do you have the Shapton "PROs" or "Glass" Stones????

I use the stones that came with the Edge Pro (120, 220, 400,600,1000) and picked up a Chosera 5000 stone. The sticky strips that come with the EP work surprisingly well but while I was picking up the Chosera stone I grabbed a horse strop mounted for the EP and 1 micron diamond paste. Seems to be pretty much all I need, so far.

Great stuff people.
My deal is that I work in a few different locals and would like something light...ish, durable, nonstick surface, that is just the right size to fit the machine.

Plus. I really love the Shapton stones.

I went to Home Depot and picked up a granite tile, then stuck non-stick pads underneath. The flat smooth surface of the tile is perfect for keeping the suction cups on the tile.
