Where to buy?
Bought my Apex from Best Knives years ago. Will need a new course stone soon.

I just bought a few replacement stones at www.congresstools.com EDM and Ruby polishing stones in various grits. You can buy the aluminum bar stock at Home Depot and make your own. Much cheaper than OEM.

You can also just reuse the stone blanks.

I actually just got some of the Congress stones to try. Have you compared them to the Edge Pro stones, as far as wear, how they cut, etc.? The only thing I figured out so far, is that the Edge Pro stones are a bit thicker than the Congress stones. The EP stones measure around .155-.156, the Congress are all pretty much right on .125 (1/8 in.). Doesn't seem like much, but if my math is right that makes the EP stone almost 25% thicker.

I'm hoping to do some testing after the holidays.

I'm still using the edge pro stones in addition to the congress stones, fresh mounting blanks was the only way to go. $5 for 48 inch bar stock, 1/8X1 makes a lot of nice blanks. I got the 80 and 120 grit ruby stones with 1/4 thickness for profiling duty. I use them wet just like the EP stones, I see no wear after many uses. I have the EDM stones in the finer grits, awesome results.:)

I don't have an edge pro, but I've experimented with them. I like the finish the Flex stones leave, the way the ruby stones cut and the durability of the Y2k stones.

Thanks for the info.

Didn't mean to imply the aluminum bar stock was a bad idea, just pointing out the originals could be reused. (In fact, I see a trip to HD in my future). :)

No problem there, I didn't take it that way. Extra stones are a good thing, I use the 3M spray adhesive super 77 to mount the stones.
