Edge Pro Sandpaper?

Anybody use sandpaper with the Edge Pro polishing tape blanks? Seems like you could spray glue some 150g sand paper to them and grind away at an edge your trying to fix. Or you could find some high grit film or just 3k grit sand paper to finish the edge.

I’ve got a fairly expensive knife from a friend who asked me to fix it. The edge is badly worn and blunt. I can’t find my 120g stones the 220grit stones I have are trash can bound. The lowest grit whetstone i have is 1k grit. I need to order some new stuff. With as bad as it is normally I’d use a belt sander but it’s a custom knife he had made. I always hesitate to use sanders on expensive knives. I can replace your Walmart knife not your one off custom or your zillion dollar knife.

Any thoughts?

I tried this but the basic sandpaper I used didn't last long enough to be practical. It would probably work with a section cut from a 1" wide ceramic belt. Whatever you use make sure it doesn't shed grit. A broken in diamond plate that no longer sheds grit is my go-to for rough work on expensive knives. The 120 grit Edge Pro stone is too messy, and the stock 220 stone is too hard for anything but very soft steel or high pressure like using the corners to get into serrations.

Try coarse wet/dry, and use it VERY wet. IMHO, edge trailing strokes only.

But with ANY sandpaper, be prepared to thoroughly clean your machine after use.

I've used it in a pinch. It will not replace stones, but when you need something now, it will get the job done.

Totally agree about using powered systems on custom knives. That borders on blasphemy!
