Would going from 220 grit to 1k be too big of a grit jump? Or would I just have to sharpen on the 1k a little longer?

If you guys know where to get the shapton edge pro kit then you might know that they have been out of stock of the 320 grit for ages and they don't offer a 500 grit.

My current setup is 500, 1k, 4k and 8k for regular sharpening but I need some for my recurved blades, thinking 220, 1k, 5k and 8k.

That's odd... my go-to store has the Shapton Glass stones in 320 and 500. The SG are supposed to be better than the Pro, but they also have the Pro in 320. I don't know if I can post their name since I don't know if they are a paid dealer here. PM me if you want to know where.

The Pro stones dont have a 500. Going fromthe 220 to the 1k isfine but you will be a little longer on the 1k. You could add a 500 nubatama in there. I get all my stones/strops direct from ken.

If you are talking about the Shapton Pro line then the jump from 220/320 to 1000 is fine and it is by design. The 1000 stone cuts very fast and does a great job of removing the lower grit stones scratch pattern.

I would recommend the 500 Glass Stone as an in-between.

But the answer to your question is yes, you can go from a 220 Glass to a 1000 glass. You'll just need to do a bit more work with the 1000.
