Hi I just placed an order for a fake version of the edge pro professional. And I would like to get some good stones for it. If you guy's could give me some pros and cons about different brands that would be great! And please don't start a discussion about what is moraly right about buying the real deal or a copy. And sorry if my English is off this is not my first language.

If you bought the one with the large vacuum base than you will be very pleased with it as it a a lot of value for the money and the stones that come with it are not bad either.

I bought a set of Ruixin (200, 500 and 800 grid) diamond stones for less than $ 10.- shipped and they are not bad either. I use these together with home made aluminum blanks to which I tape 1500 and 3000 grid sandpaper and 3M lapping film.

I would advise to glue a 20x20x10mm Neodymium magnet under the base which will help hold the knife in place and adding a drill stop collar for easy adjustment to different stone thickness.

I have shapton glass, edge pro stones and a chosea. You will hear that the shaptons are better most likely, but I can get a good edge with the edge pro's. I have not played enough with the shaptons to give them a fair eval, but you will be pleased with the system. Good luck.

Thank you for your input! Do any of you know if the real scissor attachment will fit the fake edge pro? And yes it is the one with the big vacuum base.

Probably not as the Ruixin model does not have the guide swivel for the angle adjustment rod of the scissor attachment.

I don't have anything to compare them to but I have the shaptons for the EP and they are fantastic. I highly recommend picking up a magnet, small knife attachment, an angle block, and a stop collar. These are essential in my opinion. I just picked up a set of EP stones that I plan on using as backup or on lesser knives. I found a great deal for the EP 220 and 400 stones on clearance on the same website that you will find your shaptons on (shall not be named since I don't see their name on the paid dealers list).

It really depends on how much you want to spend and what kind of steels you will be sharpening. If you are on a tight budget the Ruixin Pro Diamond stones for about $4ea are excellent for sharpening high vanadium steel like S110V. Another good budget option which I prefer to the stock EP stones is the Congress Tools Moldmasters and if money is no object then I would go with the the Shapton Pros they cut fast and leave a beautiful finish.

Do you think its possible to make that part your self or maybe contact edge pro and buy just that part from them?

I did just order from edgeproinc, the 220 stone and some silicon carbide. If like that stone i might give their stones a try to begin with and maybe buy shaptons or naniwa chosera after that, time will tell

Why the magnet and stop collar? And do you really need the small knife attachment? How small does the knife have to be before you need it?

The stop collar allows you to achieve the same degree each time if not using edge cube. It is really worth the money. The magnets are also very nice to hold the knife on the device.

No, have a good look at the original Edge Pro and you will see that it is not build the same as the Ruixin and that the Ruixin has no attachment points for the swivel.

The stop collar is a small investment that will really increase the consistency of your angle. Here is a video on how it works (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoHW3TUdz5s). It in inexpensive so I would recommend getting one. The magnet is also inexpensive and helps hold the knife to the EP. Again it helps with consistency in your angle by eliminating some knife movement.

My other two suggestions for the small knife attachment and the angle cube are maybe more of a luxury than a necessity. I am a gear head and I always want all the bells and whistles :D so I feel they are essential but you could get away without them. If a knife is too small you could make a riser block to create your own small knife jig. Here is a short explanation from the edge pro website http://www.edgeproinc.com/Sharpening-Tips.html#tip-riser

i have the newer ruixin edgepro copy.got the stop collar at local hardware store and replaced stock stones with true edgepro ones,120 though 1000 grit, this system is working fine for me and i'm getting alot of consistency on my edges,if i had to do it over!i wouldn't change a thing.
