what is edge pro is that spyderco's product? where can I get one

ive got an edge pro, I love it i make crap knives pretty sharp (make em sharp enough to cut paper with ease) all you need to do is find a way to measure the angle at which you are sharpening and then what angle you want your knife sharpened to (especially if you wanna keep the profile at which your knife came from the factory) oh and if you do find out how to do so let me know :-D

* oh and buy extra stones as well the coarsest ones go faster

Use the magic marker method of course. Nothing to it.

how do you measure the angle? Where is the numerical value? Thats what im talking about i wanna be able to use some kind of measuring device (a protractor perhaps) to tell me what angle its set at and what angle the blade is. A marker will not show me that lest i know what angle my knife is at, and that can be hard to find (except with ka-bars cause thats a 20 degree, i assuming 10 on each side but they dont say that on the site)

Do this:

"If you want to determine if you are sharpening at the same angle that the blade already has, try this easy trick. Mark the edge bevel with a magic marker. Then go ahead and do a stroke or two on the stone (or take a stroke with your Lansky, or whatever). Now pick the knife up and look at the edge. If you have matched the edge angle exactly, the magic marker will be scraped off along the entire edge bevel. If your angle is too high, only the marker near the very very tip will be gone. If your angle is too low, only the marker near where the edge bevel meets the primary bevel will be gone."

If, when you match the angle and the pivot is right on one of the colored marks, you have your angle. If not, interpolate.

When in doubt, read pages 2 and 3 in your EdgePro Apex instruction manual. This is not rocket science......

Angle schmangle, just put your Edge Pro on the GREEN mark and work the blade down till it's there "not rocket science". Touch up on the Sharpmaker.
