Edge profile?

I've been collecting knifes for about a year know I have a quiet carry marq, kershaw live wire, kershaw bel air, and a couple cheaper civivis and crkts. Recently I was looking into benchmades water series and decided on the intersect but in my search I realize something odd about the water series and that the factory edges where rather poor they where sharp but the edge is inconsistent and the grind was very rough, rough enough that it'll catch on my nail when I drag it across. I noticed this with the undercurrent as well, both knifes I was able to get hands on opportunities with them before purchasing them. Now this isn't to say the knife is bad but I've never seen an edge like that on my other high end knifes so I wanted to know if anyone else noticed a similar issue with their water series or benchmade knifes.

The low grit edge is normal. People call it Benchmade's "toothy edge". The knives are belt sharpened by hand so some inconsistency is to be expected. The bevels are usually fairly even, but sometimes the asymmetry will be a bit more pronounced. They typically come plenty sharp but occasionally I've had edges just at the cusp of not cutting paper cleanly. Edge angle tends to be around 20 degrees. The SelectEdge knives are closer to 17 degrees and noticeably finer finished. Aside from the low grit, Benchmade's edges are fairly typical of what you get with hand sharpened production knives. I have about 25 Benchmade knives and most came with nicely formed edges. Any wonkiness in the rest can be cleaned up in a couple of sharpening. My biggest complaint would be oversharpening at the heel on a Mini Adamas and a fullsize Adamas, but that's a real pet peeve of mine. Watch those heels, Benchmade! But I've never had an unacceptable edge. I know I'm going to reprofile usually anyway but it is nice when reprofiling takes minimal effort.

Yeah toothy is a good way to describe it, it was definitely still sharp and I did end up putting my own edge on it so at the end of the day a slightly rough looking edge isn't a big deal I had never run into that before so it threw me off a bit since overall it's a really nice knife
