Edge profiles?

Hiya folks,

Can anyone advise as to the edge profiles on the blades offered in the latest pre-order? I'm wondering specifically if the RMD and SW I have on the way will arrive with the same kind of bevel (convexed?) as my Waki.

My only sharpening system so far is my Sharpmaker, so I'm kind of at a loss when it comes to maintaining the Waki's profile, and I haven't used it much yet.

But the much shorter RMD and SW edges could be reprofiled on the diamonds, if necessary, so that I might use them and keep them sharp without fear of screwing up a bevel that might be integral to their purpose.

Appreciate any thoughts you might have,

Matt

Im no good at convexing, so I usually reprofile to an assymetric edge when the time comes, leaving one side convexed and doing the otherside microbeveled with a flat grind. I strop the convexed side and sharpen the other to 800grit, or even 2000 tape. I hard use knives and find an assymetric easy to maintain and it holds its edge well through lots of use. Its an alternative if you don't have the means or skill to do a convex well like myself. Hope this helps a little. Mick~

So you just V-grind one side of the blade, add a micro-bevel, and the leave the other side convex without touching it all? That's an interesting idea, never occurred to me that you could do something like that.

I'm thinking about establishing my own V-grind on the SW, whether it's a convex bevel or not. It's small enough that I would use it for the same everyday tasks as my V-ground folders. But I'm still torn about the RMD... I see that as a hard-use camp/survival knife. As such, the convex grind would probably be worth keeping.

I should probably just learn to convex grind a knife and have done with it. But I'm reluctant to learn on (and likely botch) such nice knives, let alone a blade as expensive as the Waki...
