Hey guys Ive been trying to re-profile a Collins hatchet that has a pretty serious chip in it. My question is how do you guys take out chips and dings when you get your Axe/Hatchets/Hawks?

You need to file the edge to get rid of the chip, then re-sharpen. It's a PITA, but the only way to do it right.

x2...
also, make sure that you use even strokes so that you keep your bit even and on the correct profile...

You could do it with an angle grinder....then all of us 'Old Boys' will come over and give you a bloody good hiding. Or is it wooping in the States?

Slowly and carefully is the key. It's not a matter of removing the chip...but removing the steel down to the base of the chip.
A little at a time on both sides. It's a very good question though. Can you put some pics on. Good luck with the project. If it's a Collins it's worth the effort.

regards...Frank

For chopping/felling/splitting you'll want your edge profile to look like this.

A rough duty or 'swamping axe' should have a slightly fatter profile.
