Since I've started using the crap out of my part serrated CQC-12, I can say that its edge retention is somewhere around the level of the S30V on the CRK Umnumzaan.
I've used it to cut a bunch of cardboard, sawed through some 5/8" dowel with the serrated portion, and trimmed a bunch of branches ranging from 1/4" to 3/4" on a maple tree. Had to hack at the 3/4" branches; up to 1/2" or so cut through with one swipe. Cut some fiberglass as well.
After all that it needed the SLIGHTEST touch up, not even enough to really count as a sharpening.
So I don't understand the folks who say the steel is too soft. Are they just basing that on what others have said rather than using their knives?
