Just out of curiosity what was the sharpest blade any of you have ever come across (brand and model)?

So far my own. But there are some members here, who's blades I would love to try out.

The ones I have sharpened.......

.....if I had to pick among those knives, I would probably have to go with BRKT's A2 steel and a kitchen knife in Shirogami.

Oh, wait, you don't really think that factory edges can compete, do you? Or are you specifically asking about factory edges?

From the maker? Without a doubt my kitchen knives from Ichimonji-Kichikuni in Sakai Japan, next closest would be a Sid Birt drop point skinner I bought from him when he was still stationed at GAFB. Factory production would go to an Al Mar Eagle I bought when the model first came out.

Factory edge was on a Warren Thomas/Beretta Collaboration called the Avenger, it was a carbon fiber VG-10 laminated blade in a CF handle.

This sucker could scare the hair off yer arm while it was still in the box. :)

It was the Fallkniven U2 I bought many years ago.
"Hard" user me,as a plumber,I do not believe the edge that Knife has kept from new.
It was more than "razor sharp" out of the box.
Any contact with the knife edge(and I mean any contact, experienced knife owner of more than 30 years) would result in a cut of some kind.
Even so after many, many years of "hard"use ,it is my "pocket-scalpel"
Once a month touch-up, to keep it that way.

Folder= Sebenza and Para Military.
Custom= Hartsfield and Leu. Power sharp!!

Sharpest fixed blade to date, my Bark River Wolf River, I'm talking scary sharp.
Sharpest folder to date, my Spyderco Paramilitary

Both the small and large Ritter Grips (RSK Mk1) were the sharpest out-of-the-box knives I have ever bought. This was due in part to the very thin edge, but dang they were sharp!!

Around 1989 or so I bought a SOG 'Sogwinder.' It was the first knife I had with the then-newfangled idea of one-hand opening(it had brass thumb studs). I think the blade is of AUS 6(not sure about that), and has a dagger-style shape, and it was made in Japan. I still have the knife stored away somewhere.

The seller commented that 'those knives are really sharp,' regarding the SOGs. You could barely touch the edge to your skin, and it would draw blood. Of course, that edge did not last very long, and once it was gone I could not even bring it back to shaving sharp, even with the Lansky kit I had back then.

The moral is that factory edge is not everything it's cracked up to be. 'User edge' is what matters most.

Yea I was referring to factory edge at first. Does the type of steel effect how sharp a blade CAN get?
Also, if anyone here has one or a similar one, will my Benchmade Vex that is currently in shipment have a very sharp factory edge?

FWIW the sharpest OOB knife I've had was a KaBar Large Dozier.
I don't put much emphasis on OOB sharpness, I always know I'm going to work on the edge anyway to make it suit my use, so I don't care how sharp the factory made it.

About your Vex, I have two red box Benchmades, both were fairly sharp, but not blazingly so.

I've never had steel that I could not get sharp. Just steel that would not stay sharp long enough to suit me.:D
