Kalis Ilustrisimo Training now available in Los Angeles.

If you think you know what Filipino Martial Arts are like, you may be in for a suprise.

Kalis Ilustrisimo has been characterized as "... very deadly, direct and immediate. Unique in the simple, direct and cunning way it is done, it is one of the very few styles that is still based on the blade. Its movements are compact and accurate, characterised by typically small, simple and direct movements without any gaps between attack and defence."

The art of KI is different from many other FMA systems in that it concentrates solely on creating an effective knife fighter, it dispenses with many of the drills commonly seen in other systems. It has no complicated two man drills, nor does it have convoluted techniques to learn.

For many traditionalists the teachings and methods used by KI are regarded as heresy. None of that matters on the streets. If it was not my personal belief that this system is not highly effective I would not teach it

These classes are all blade based, based on the idea that one is more likely to encouter, or carry an edged weapon versus a sword or stick. That being so all knife skills can easily be transferred to a variety of weapons, including impact and larger edged weapons.

Kalis Ilustrisimo is widely regarded as one of the most effective blade systems in the world today.

Stressing simplicity and compact combat, the techniques taught can be applied as easily in doorway, as in an open room. Technique is never taught in isolation and students learn to spar what they learn almost immediately.

We cannot mention KI without mentioning Raymond Floro of Floro Fighting Systems, a dedicated student and master of FMA and bladecraft, a trainer to Special Forces, LEO, and citizens who is at the forefront of the Kalis Ilustrisimo resurgence. It is through Raymond which I am authorized to instruct others in the art of Kalis Ilustrisimo.

What may interest those here is that all our knife training is done in a reverse "pikal" grip. We find this structure to be more advantageous and tactically sound than the traditional tip up grip.

Training is offered near Wilshire and Crenshaw twice a week for $10 a class, discounts for multiple classes available.
