edgemaker pro

Regardless of the price, I don't care for this type of sharpener at all. They just carve steel off the edges of your knives and will certainly shorten the life of any good knife.

Your money would have been better spent on the Sharpmaker or my personal preference, the Edge Pro Apex.

Thanks...I will order one....I really only use this for my ktichen knives and it seems to work pretty well..and they aren't expensive knives..

Where's the barf smiley? Those sharpeners send shivers down my spine. Running a knife through one of those things should be illegal.

I'd be glad to throw it out but here it is 7 days later and it hasn't arrived. And I'm not holding my breath either..too bad I used paypal...at least with a credit card I could dispute it if he never sent it....

On an up note, how is the spyderco sharpener? They seem like a nice sharperner for the money.

It's an excellent sharpening tool as long as you understand its limitations. It allows two angles 30 degrees or 40 degrees (inclusive) which, should work for most situations. There are 2 sets of stones (rods) that come with the kit; medium and fine. There is an optional set of stones (rods) that are ultrafine.

The main limitation is that if you are trying to reprofile a blade where you are going to have to remove steel, the Sharpmaker takes a long time. The medium rods just take forever.

On the other hand, if the edge from the factory meets either the 30 or 40 setting, and you don't let the blade get dull, the Sharpmaker is a veryy effective and somewhat foolproof method for keeping the blade extremely sharp.

You will generally find that on this forum, the Sharpmaker is the "drug of choice". I have one and use it for keeping sharp edges sharp. I use an Edge Pro Apex to get 'em razor sharp and at the angles I want in the first place.

Good luck.

Go here and file a claim. That should get his attention.

Very good, much better than that other thing you ordered. I'd say that it's easily the best system of its kind. You'll see similar V-rod systems that have round, not triangular rods. Spyderco's rods make it possible to sharpen serrations and odd blade shapes like recurves.

The edge you get from the fine rods is very good. You can buy the ultra fine rods and get an even more polished edge.
