Are the colored angle indicators on the rod supposed to be BELOW or ABOVE the pivot? According to the manual: "Set the STONE ARM so that the desired ANGLE INDICATOR MARK is showing just above the PIVOT."

When I put the mark above the pivot it seems like the angles are too shallow. But putting the mark below the pivot seems to come closer to matching the 15 and 20 degree angles on my sharpmaker. Is this a misprint in the manual? Thanks in advance.

Above.......And you are correct when you say that you sometimes feel the angles are too shallow.

Ben tells us his angles are between the table and the hone.
Using this information and a little math tells us that if you set the Edge pro to
15°, the actual angle you will end up with on your blade will be closer to 13°.

The important thing here is repeatability and consistency. Just how you set the pivot arm is up to you ,
but once you have decided how to line up the colored marks, you need to use that position in the future.

I record for later use the angle settings and distance from table edge to guide for every blade I sharpen.
This makes set up very quick in the future and I get back to the EXACT angle. So re sharpening also goes very quickly
with the absolute minimum of metal removal.

Ditto what Nosmo said. If you ha d afully flat ground knife and laid it on the table, and had a similar knife that was saber flat ground, you'd get different edge angles at the same setting, because the full flat groudn blade would be lying on its beveled side, while the saber flat would be lying on the table on its flat! Repeatablility and consistency is the key. Find a cheap ($5) plastic caliper and use that to measure rod length for your knvies, and record that for future reference.
