EdgePro Apex, how long to set up?

Hi All,

The EdgePro uses waterstones right? I've heard that waterstones need to be saturated with water before use.

So my question is this... Assume the Apex hasn't been used in a month and I have 1 knife that needs a little TLC, so I get out my EdgePro. How long from "unzip the bag" to "I'm reshaping my edge"?

On the flip side, do you leave your stones out to dry before packing them up in the bag again or do you put them away wet?

Thanks,
Mike

You don't have submerge the EdgePro stones and let them soak like some other water stones. Just squirt water on the stones a few times before you start and make sure you add water as needed during the sharpening process.

It only takes a couple of minutes to go from the packed kit to sharpening a knife.

I let my stones dry before storing them, but they don't take long to dry.

I hope this is of some help. :)

I don't have a ton of experience with my Apex but I think 5 minutes would be reasonable.

I tend to constantly coat the stone with more water as I am doing the sharpening as well, so that will saturate the stones too.

Oh... and I dry the stones off just a little and wrap them in a towel before storing them.

I submerge my stones and when all the bubbles stop rising off the stones they are saturated. This can take 15 min or so. I find that these stones do best if very wet. You still have to spritz them frequently or they load up.
