Do the stones that come with the Apex really go longer without clogging like regular stones? Their website makes this claim, and I was thinking of buying one if true.

They are waterstones and thus load up less than many other types of abrasives. I would not say they load up less than otehr quality waterstones.

Cliff,
What do you think of the Edgepro? Does it give a better edge than a spyderco Sharpmaker?

Thanks,
Jason

The Edge Pro has a wider array of abrasives and is not fixed at preset angles but adjustable so it is more flexible in regards to edge profiles. It is also much faster than the Sharpmaker due to the inherent faster action of the waterstones and greater contact area. The Sharpmaker is however significantly cheaper and works very well for putting a quick micro-bevel on a slightly blunted knife. It is slightly faster than the Edge Pro in that regard. The Sharpmaker is also much less complex so it much more suitable as an introduction into sharpening than the Edge Pro. The Sharpmaker also handles extreme curves much better than the Edge Pro.
