Zero complaints, that is!

I thought I had one, though. That's why I'm writing this post. I failed to notice how badly my 120 grit stone was getting hollowed out. I guess I should have paid closer attention. After re-dressing 30 Ontario Pilot's Survival knives, I should have expected as much.

So I went looking for that bag of sand that came with my EdgePro Apex Complete (the one that has a label recommending that it be stored seperatly from the rest of the set). I finally found it in-between the pages of a Blade magazine in my bottom desk drawer. As per the instructions, I proceeded to "level" the 120 grit stone with the sand and a cinderblock. It took me all of 10 minutes to turn the whole bag of sand to glass powder, and the stone was still heavily bowed!

I contacted EdgePro to order a new 120 grit stone (which I had fully expected to need eventually), and also asked for a larger bag of sand. EdgePro promptly advised me that they had a new spin on leveling the stones.... Silicon Carbide. I ordered a new stone and 1/2 pound of the new wonder powder, which arrived in two days.

The Silicon Carbide works GREAT! You just make a slurry on a plate of glass, and the stone magically becomes perfectly flat!

Anyone with an EdgePro needs to get a sack of this stuff. It's around $2, and that's enough to last forever.

I got some silicon carbide and plate glass from LeeValley and it does work very well. Noisey though! :)
