Edgepro vs Hapstone

Looking to purchase a sharpening system and was leaning towards the Edgepro but then came upon the Hapstone. Putting aside where it's made (I like USA made) it appears to be a better quality unit. The Edgepro looks like it has more plastic, while the Hapstone appears very well made. Your thoughts on either?

Edge pro is widely available, I'm on the waiting list for the Hapstone not sure when they will become available?

I looked into the different systems as well and had a difficult time deciding. I ended up with the edge pro apex 4 kit. I have since added DMT plates and a drill collar from chef knives to go and I am very happy with my decision. The plastic on the base does not bother me because it has no effect on the use of the sharpener. I could see myself using this thousands of times without ever having any issues. The stones will eventually wear out and need to be replaced, but there are a lot of cool options from other companies that you can go with if you want to change it up. I cannot weigh in on the Hapstone as I have never used it. As for as the EP goes though I am very happy and after practicing on two beater knives I have sharpened dozens now and get amazing results. If money were no object I would have gone with the wicked edge system, but I did not want to spend that much.

Build your own, like I did. Used billet aluminum & stainless steel. Uses neodymium magnets to hold the blade down and it cost less than $60 in parts. Honestly while the one I built takes a bit of know how to make as nice as it is, you can make one similar to the Edge Pro style for MUCH LESS money. It doesn't have to be made of anything more than plywood! The stones are the secret.

Plastic on the EP isn't an issue, it's robust enough for your sharpening work. The suction cups, on the other hand, suck, and not in the way you want it to. I'd actually be pretty interested to check out the hapstone for myself, but since i already have the EP, and it's unlikely i will need to replace it anytime soon. I'll just stick to reviews.

once they fix the issues with v6 I'll probably get one. otherwise the edge pro is cheaper. But the hapstone comes with way more add-ons and way more stone options. Hapstone is made out of better materials. Both will do the same job.

Hapstone is the edge pro on roids

i use water stones made by both EP and hapstone, the ones by hapstone are made by boride also made in the USA for them excellent quality and preform vary well, they are much thicker then ones sold by EP,i use the EP system and don't much about there guided rig!but looks to be made well also.
