Got the new microscope last week :)

Here's a few, I'll post more later, not much time now.

Benchmade 710HSSR M2 blade after rehardening. This is "as is" blade, after furnace.

Another rehardened 710 M2 blade, I've tried to clean it up with sandpaper. Serrations that clearly need sharpening.

Damaged sections on the edge of Shun Classic series utility knife.

Serrations on the 320mm Gude bread knife:

DMT 120 grit diamond benchstone.

Thanks for the pictures! I find them fascinating! I especially like seeing the diamonds. :) Could you post some info on the microscope as well?

Thanks, I love your macro pictures.

How big are those chips in the vg10 blade? Fingernail thickness? Just curious about the perspective.

Microscope is Omano trinocular.

Actually Brogan is right, divide by 150 whatever you see. Unless you have some really weird screen it's pretty much the same dot pixel size for most of the modern monitors. And I use the same 15mpx DSLR for all the photos posted in this thread. I've checked on 3 different resolution (native) monitors and everythingfrom 30" to 19" is pretty much the same.
Well, some of the pix are ~300x, but as usual I state in the pic what it is, or in the pic name.

Hmmmm, my 30" Apple Cinema screens have resolutions of 2560x1600 (102.4 pixels per inch).
My 21" Dell monitors at work have resolutions of 1600x1200 (80 pixels per inch).
My iPhone has a resolution of nearly zero. :D

Anyway, they're fun pictures to look at. You're making me want to look at microscopes now.

You know what I'd love to see? Some before pics of some nicely sharpened blades of different steel, then pics after cutting something really abrasive, like carpet. I'm really interested to see how S30V looks compared to something like INFI.

Dot pitch or dot pixel is 0.25mm for 24" and 0.27mm for 30".
So, the difference is not that much.
24" and 30" are diagonal sizes btw.
So, that's why I put ~ on the numbers.

Hardly, but even now it's better than lots of the kitchen knives I was given to sharpen ;)
