Being somewhat retarded when it comes to re-profiling a knife, I'm fortunate in having access to a mad genius called MadRookie (appropriately enough). MR has a sharpening set-up of legendary quality and he knows how to use it! I don't know how he does it, and his turnaround time is scary quick too.

I tried to capture the deadly sharp edges he has put on three of my knives.... but my photography skills are limited. Trust me they are scary sharp!

This is a Marty Young folder of CPM-154. Great knife, that I felt could benefit from a re-profile to get the most out of the steel.

This here is a Scott Gossman UFK with S90V steel. Again, I felt the edge bevels weren't getting the most out of that amazing steel, so I got Rookie to re-do it. Its a cutting machine now!

Another shot of the Gossman. I love this knife!

Finally this a Strider DB-L. I really only wanted the front edge done (they come blunt from the factory as it is intended to be both a prying tool and a knife) but Rookie in his enthusiasm went and did the whole edge for me. Bless his heart he did such a good job I couldn't stay mad at him for long... :D

Here's a group shot of all three....

Those are beautiful. I know Mad Rookie by reputation as one of the best of the best. What sharpening method/tools did he use on your knives?

He's definitely good at sharpening! I need to er, um "hone" my skills... LOL. I keep waffling between my edge pro, paper wheels and lansky; not sure which method I like best.:foot::D

Truth be told, I don't know exactly how he does it, but he is blazingly fast! He practically has them back in the mail to you before you have a chance to ask him how its going. :D

Thx for the kind words, may I stop blushing now....

I extensively use an Edgepro Professional model which I have customized to minimize any inherent manufacturing tolerances of the equipment.

A digital angle meter (Angle Cube) and Veho 400x microscope forms an integral part of my routine to repeat with precision.

My gear includes the entire Atoma diamond plate range in all the available sizes & grits.

Also have the full range of Shapton Pro, as well as the Shapton Glass stones right up to 30k.

Then there is the full Chosera range of stones.

....and Poly crystalline diamond sprays up to 0.025µ with a wide range of CBN sprays too.

Oh yea, I have a good couple of natural Japanese sharpening stones as well.

All horses for courses....

I simply love sharpening.

For those interested in watching, some vids...

Thank you for the praise Mark.

...and a couple of stills....

All the blades in the vids & pics are my own blades and are either S90V, S110V, M390, CPM-Rex 121 or K390 - I like the hard, abrasion resistant steels with phenomenal edge retention.

On top of his enviable sharpening skills, Rookie also creates some of the best "food porn" on the Internet. Check out his cooking over on the Spyderco Forum. ;)

There's something about that ZT560CBF & BM581 though... I gotta redo the edge on my 581!

One day when I get my Military I'm going to bring it to you Mr Madrookie, you're just down the road from me!

MR, those still shots are really something. I don't know whether to be inspired or depressed (that I'll never come close to that!).

Beautiful work in any event.

Those are great pictures.... Your edges look very similar to mine, except mine aren't very shiny, even or sharp :D

Thanks for shedding some light on your processes and equipment Rook, those pics are mind-blowing dude...
