EdgeTek Bench Stone, Anybody Else Loving These?

I picked up this medium Buck EdgeTek stone late last year on my BCCI discount, and have had some time to use it quite a bit now. I am really impressed with the design of the case and diamond plate mount on this thing. The stone can be put in the inverted lid to raise it up a bit from the bench allowing a handhold with plenty of finger clearance. The continuous matrix of the diamonds makes quick clean work of touching up my EDC blades, and for my kitchen knives I simply put two screws through the base into a piece of pine and clamp the pine to the bench, allowing two hand guiding of the longer blades sharpening strokes. The grit has held up exceptionally well for me thus far, and I suspect will provide many years of service.

On the bottom of the plate mount there is a finger hold pattern molded into it, a very clever idea! I do not have the coarse yet, but will fix that as soon as I place my next Post Falls order;) I am thinking that the coarse will be of great use with these grips, for sharpening my axe, hatchet, and other outdoors cutting things...

The medium seems to leave a great working edge for my purposes, and for some blades a loaded strop is used after for a paper slicing edge. This med. stone has become my "go to" stone, and the DMT red has been neglected since.
I feel these are an awesome value at their price point, and just wanted to share.

thanks for looking.

I'm glad I'm not the only fan of the Edgetek products. I don't have the benchstones yet, but I have the three sided Flipstik and the dual sided pocket stone, and I find they work very well. Those benchstones have been on my list for a while now, and I plan on picking them up when i have the funds. I do wish they made one in Fine, but like you said, a loaded strop works well for finishing it off.

I'm going to look over the pics in the catalog later, and check out the sticks, I need one for my hawkbill type blades.

David, the red one is listed as 750 grit ( medium). Buck doesn't specify what type of diamond crystal and a search for Edge Tech was fruitless...the coarse is listed as 325 grit. They are on pages 70 and 71 of the 2013 dealer catalog. They are worth a look and with the BCCI discount, really a bargain in my mind...

Aahhh! Another search with the correct spelling EdgeTek shows results, and seems these are the result of a Buck and Hewlett MFg. partnership...

Ok, my catalog came this afternoon, I see them. So, no info on whether they're polycrystalline or monocrystalline. Thank, DM

Thanks for that link StuntDouble! That answers that question.
How are you liking the two sided pocket stone?

I like it. I actually own two. I didn't realize the one I bought years ago was from the same manufacturer. It's seen a lot of use, but it still works really well. The newer I got from Buck does seem like it started off a bit more aggressive than the older one. I tend to hold it with the tips of my thumb and fingers when using it, so I have to be careful not to lop off the tops.

The only complaint I can lodge against the Flipstik, is that I wish the sides were flat. I've mentioned it before, but it's really hard to sharpen all the way up to the kick on most knives. This isn't an issue with knives that have a generous choil, like some of my Kershaws. I also find the rounded edges lead to me slipping more when I get to the point of the knife. Not really major issues, as I still love the edge it puts on a knife.
