Hey you bright fellows out there, I just obtained a new never used EDI Genesis I knife that has many nice qualities about it, but there is one thing that is driving me nuts and that is the blade has an incredible amount of horizontal wiggle. I have the pivot screw tightened to the max and you can still get movement just by LIGHTLY jiggling the knife back and forth. I'm not afraid to tear it down but is there anything I can do with the spacers or such to tighten it up. I need ideas. Thanks

I've seen this occasionally in other knives. I have found a few ways to solve the wiggle. You do need to determine why it is wiggling. If you have the pivot tightened all the way and the blade opens easily, it might be that the pivot is a bit too long and the pivot screw isn't bearing down on the frame enough. Check and make sure all of the other screws are tight. You may also want to look into slightly thicker washers. Another thing to look at is how tightly does the liner lock engage the tang. The lock may not have been bent far enough to provide sufficient tension for the blade.

I love this design Robow however the Genesis is well known for too much blade play & liner lock failures. I had 3 and loved the designed but all three developed blade play after just a few weeks. I sent back 2 Gen's for liner lock problems. I got two of my worst cuts from this knife. At the time the Gen came out there was much fanfare about it. Michael Collins design, bronze washers, wonderful blade geometry. I was in hog heaven with my first one until the lock failed. The lock usually failed after I started to notice the blade play. As a matter of fact I felt the lock got worse after I tightened it up.

It's too bad. The knife had a lot of potential. Be careful with the knife and watch for locking failures.

Kodiak, how did you go about tightening the blade further if you don't mind me asking? Thanks for your response.

I had a Genesis 1 . . . a friend talked me out of it!

My developed some play and I found an easy fix! The inner bronze bushing is a FRACTION too long! If you will take the knife apart COMPLETELY you can remove the bronze bushing inside the blade hole. You can hone the length of the bushing SLIGHTLY. Reassemble the knife and it will allow you to effectively tighten the blade to where it will remove the play. If it still will not tighten completely then repeat the process . . . just a LITTLE at a time!

That should work . . . I have done it on a couple of them and it worked well.:D :D

You may want to go with Jason's suggestion. I could never fix mine and sent 2 back to EDI. As soon as I got the third, I sold it.

Jason, I took your advice and it worked out super. After 5 minutes it now works like a champ. Thankx

The pivot bushing in that knife is a great idea BUT is was just made a hair too long!

Glad the fix worked for ya . . . the ones fixed this way have not "redeveloped" any play in my experience . . . BUT that is limited to only three or four of them!:D :D
