EDI genesis?

I have the Genesis 2, black TiNitride coating. it has Gv-6H scaled and 1 titanium liner and the Genesis 1 has g-10 and 2 titanium liners. The Genesis 1 also have the ability to change pocket clip sides, where the genesis 2 doesn't. I know knifecenter used to have the spec sheets up comparing the 2. Overall a good knife, but my lock wore pretty quickly.

Stiletto, I got mine yesterday. I love it. Mine is the plain edged EDI Genesis II, and it is a wonderful knife. Some idiot dropped it yesterday however and put some little scratch marks on it. There is almost zero blade play side to side, and the lock was solid on mine. The blade centered perfectly, and there were absolutely no QC errors. The pocket clip is one of the best I've seen on a knife so far. The thumb stud is a little bit uncomfortable for me though, but I got used to it and now it ain't bad. I paid only $50 for mine (NIB), because of the BSBO sale from 1SKS.

Compared to the AFCK's I've seen, this Genesis II rules. Will make an excellent user knife. I also got my Microtech today. It's cool also.

Assuming they've got their quality control problems worked out, it is a very nice knife. I have a Genesis 1 that has stood the test of time and use very well. I have taken it apart a few times to re-lubricate it, but otherwise it was trouble free.

The Genesis is a good user. Sharp edge, but you have to thin the bevel out a little. It was my first knife with a liner lock and at first I loved it, but then the lock wore. Now the blade is very stiff and there is some play with the blade, even with the blade tightened. the blade has to be very tight in order to eliminate most of the side to side play. There were a few spots on the handle that didn't look like they were finished properly. Also, there is a little grind booboo on one side of the blade, a little bump about 1/16" wide and the length of the blade grind. I do love that clip though! Overall, it cuts very well, but doesn't hold its edge for a super long time. I found an old Imperial Schrade stockman that used to be my grandfathers and the little blade and the large blade get noticable sharper than the genesis and cut much smoother and hold their edges well. this could be because they are thinner blades. All in all, a Genesis is a good choice for utility and everyday carry. Jsut be careful, it is hard or impossible to contact the company if there is a problem.

I purchased 2 NIB Genesis-I models from a fellow forum member in June. They were well made, lightweight, comfortable to hold and smooth as a baby's bottom to open & close. The only flaw i could find was a problem with the liner locks being somewhat weak.

I sent an e-mail to EDI telling them what the problem was and asked for an estimated cost to have the liners adjusted or replaced. I fully expected (and was willing) to pay a reasonable amount for this work as I was not the original owner and did not expect to be covered by the warranty. Within 2 days I received a return e-mail from Carol Lockett carol@ediknives.com at EDI. Carol advised that if I sent the knives to EDI they would replace the liners or the knives under their warranty. The knives went out to them last week.

I can only vouch for my own experience with EDI and I've found them to be an excellent company to deal with in every way. I will definitely do business with them again.

Taz,

If you've had some problems contacting EDI in the past, I suggest you try them again. I understand that they've been going through some changes since they first opened for business, including a move to Chesterfield, Missouri. Maybe that's why you had a problem.

I own two Gen'1 s. One in my pocket and one in my lockbox. It is my favorite tactical. I had a minor problem with one (my fault) and Jerry (Edge Design) corrected it FREE!! It's a great knife.

Beherethen, it is a very good knife isn't it? I really like mine.

The lockup seems really solid. A lot of people seem to be complaining that their lock up isn't solid though. Weird, huh?

I've had a Genesis from a while ago, and it's a really wonderful knife. Good grip, smooth opening action, and a solid lock...and pretty bloody sharp, too.

My only problem I have is that I've had difficulty finding the torx key to put the handle on the other side.

Being a lefty sucks. First left handed scissors in elementary school, now this.

You mean the pocket clip? Try getting the Benchmade Pocket-Torx tool set. It's only $10 at One Stop Knife Shop.

You don't even have to get a Benchmade torx set. Just get a #6 torx driver from a hardware store (Sears was the only one I could find in my area that carried them that small -- everyone else stopped at #10)

mcMaster Carr sells a torx set for $8 that has the 6 for the handle and clip and the 15 or 20 for the pivot. Mine has a very solid lockup, but after a few months of everyday utility use and openings, it became noticably looser. I have to reaklly tighten up the pivot to eliminate the sid eto side play and the liner moves when the blade is pushed. My liner wore from the left to the extreme far right in just a few weeks and a few flicks. I will email EDI about buying a few replacement liners from them to see if that fixes the problem. The bronze washers are a nice touch and the action is incredibly smooth. I just dont like having to have the blade that tight to prevent wobble.

I'm going to be getting the Benchmade torx set. Upon advice here (ages ago), I took a stroll to Sears...No luck. It's a small wonder, since the local Sears is pretty much a shambles. The Home Despot (mispelling intentional) didn't have any either. Weird!

I'm afraid the Bladeforums store is going to be consuming a fair amount of my cash in the near future. Very sad for Dan.
