Went to my local knife shop yesterday and i noticed that they had these knives marked with EDI on it. They were clearing out their inventory of them for $49 and they were MSRP for $167. I held off on getting it because I was kinda iffy on the knife company. I came back here and found an article on an EDI Genesis that looked like what I saw. It had ATS34 steel with plastic handles and a plain silver blade. I'm thinking that I may have passed up a good deal but figure it wouldnt hurt to check here first to get some opinions. Any info on this would be appreciated, for it may cause a hasty trip back.:p :D

Before EDI went out of business they had two models, Genesis I W/G10 handles which was their first knife, then they came out with a slightly less expensive model the Genesis II W/zytel handles. For $50 I would go for it myself :) although if you have any problems ...( no returning it for warranty ) But it was a good knife even by todays standards, many consider it to have the best designed clip EVER, bronze bushings for blade pivot, titanium liner, comfortable grip, ATS 34 steel. I'd go for it if you like it !!

make sure the piece you get passes the spine-whack test! I read that a lot of them had less-than-perfect lock-ups....design-wise, they're really not bad. Personally, I like the concept of a lifetime warranty issued by a company that's still in business:D :p

I owned one and thought it was one of the best looking folders I ever saw-very attractive and functional blade shape and size. The lockup was pathetic and I eventually couldn't wait to get rid of it, which I did. That said, at $49, I would probably take a chance on another, as I know the luck of the draw did provide some people with a good copy of that knife. geegee

I already got one. Did not know the company was defunct though. The one i got is a Genesis 1 and so far it seems to be a great knife. My buddy did the spine whack test against my desire not to do it. I'll try it out for a few days and see what happens.

it's a nice knife, whatever may happen. only thing is I wouldn't carry a knife unless there's absolute lock integrity. that said, I believe a spine whack test isn't the absolute test - see also whether the lock is compromised in the "white knuckle" test!

The original Genesis was a great design, ahead of its time when intro'd. There were not a lot of production knives at that time which featured bronze oil-lite bushings, nor the deep pocket clip. Unfortunately, EDI went under...

I'm still sad that I sold my Gen. 1, way back when... :grumpy: :( :grumpy:

The lock seems to be working fine and the edge is razor sharp so I think that for $49 I can live with it. It is to bad that they went under.
