Are there any official classes, get togethers etc available in the mid Atlantic region that involve or are based around the identification of plants, or edible plants? I live about an hour north of Baltimore, but anywhere in MD, northern VA, DE, southern NJ, southern central to southeastern PA would be good for me. Also, Cabelas, REI, Gander Mountain, Bass Pro, Cabelas. There are several get togethers hosted by knife makers. My skills are very limited, but any knowledge I can gain is better than nothing. I decided to spend more time trading rather than walk with Kevin Estela several years ago at a campout, and while I enjoyed trading with friends, I should have attempted to learn more with Kevin. Hindsight is 20/20. Oh well. Thanks in advance.

Some of the free nature hikes put on by the State Parks are useful. They are usually geared to wild flowers, but the leader usually has some knowledge on edible plants. That is especially true in the spring and early summer. It is a matter of developing a comfort level that you trust yourself between identifying plants and using the various guides that are available. Mushrooms..... my suggestion is stay away from them unless you are absolutely sure.
