Does anyone have both an EDKarda and Hiking Buddy? I would love to see photos of them next to each other.

And thoughts on how they compare. I love my HB, but curious if the handle of the EDKarda is bigger and more conducive to long term use such as carving.

Thank you!

Hi Raining,

I really enjoy the look and feel of both these designs. In my hands there is really not too much difference between the two. The EDKarda's handle is a bit taller (from spine to bottom) and oval than the Hiking buddy which is a bit more round, but we are talking a very small difference. Hence, they both feel comfortable in my hands. If you like the feel of either one the two, then I think you'll like the other as well. They are that close.

I have two EDKardas and one Hiking buddy for comparison. In the photos below as shown from top to bottom...
  • An EDKarda in 5/32" O1 Tool Steel, Saber Grind, Tapered Tang.
  • A Hiking buddy in 5/32" O1 Tool Steel, Saber Grind.
  • An EDKarda in 1/8" O1 Tool Steel, Saber Grind.
I hope this has been of some help to you.

Sincerely,
Mark

The Bushcraft Karda might be of interest to you as well if wanting a bigger handle for long term use such as carving. It definitely has a longer handle than the ED Karda but the blades are pretty similar. By bigger I'm assuming you mean lengthwise.

The bushcraft karda handle is pretty nice. I feels almost like a ladyfinger handle (which is probably my favorite grip from Andy)

Both are very comfortable in my hand. I guess it just depends how much blade you want.

Thank you all for your input, really appreciate it.

Mark, great photos. Thank you!

I guess I was thinking (hoping) that the EDKarda's handles were more hand-filling, but it looks very close to a hiking buddy handle now that I see them side by side.
