EDMF serial numbers

Does anyone here know how EDMF serial numbers run? I have a feeling, from looking at the few knives I own, that they were just numbered in the order they were made. The knives I have were made between '99 and '01, and that is the only system that seems to make sense. Please don't ask me to contact EDMF. I haven't received an answer from them, about anything, in at least five or six years.

I have a few EDMF and I believe that Dale just marks them in sequential order.

That's what I thought. On a slightly different tack, what are some of the serial numbers you guys have and what are they dated? I have a couple in the 1,300 range that are dated 2001. Just trying to see what might be the latest anyone received something from Dale and how high the serial numbers might have gotten.

I have some of the absolute last stuff Dale has produced or re-handled and the date/number ranges go like this: 2043 & dated 7/13 (EDMF custom), 2056 & dated 3/14 (EDMF re-handle), 2057 & dated 3/14 (EDMF re-handle), and 2058 & dated 3/14. Dale's production really slowed down after some serious health problems and then his wife passing away. When I talked to him via e-mail about 2 weeks ago, he said that he is pretty much done with knife making and re-handling. He is just too old and it is really difficult for him to work in the shop.

Finally, some solid information about EDMF. Sorry to hear about Elaine passing - didn't know that. She always wrote a kind note of thanks on any invoice I received with one of their knives.

BTW, why did you have some of your knives re-handled, just to change the style? I can't imagine anyone using one of Dale's knives hard enough to damage the handle beyond use. They're really tough cookies.

I had some blades from John Greco and some Camillus-era Cold Steel knives that I had Dale cast his D-Guard handles on.

I only ever broke one of his handles and it was from blatant abuse that I did to it while in my 20's. He offered to fix it but the blade went missing pretty soon after.

I know from a guy that Dale number them in making order but that if somebody requested a number he would do it
