Educate me, please. Forced patina with sulfuric acid?

You mean, besides death and mutilation ? :D

+1..Yes I can see that happening ! I would go with PCB etchant (found at radio shack) or another "clich" method. Just use the Search feature and you'll find what you're looking for..and keep your skin and eyes where they belong.

Some etching info - http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/969737-PCB-Etch-vs-Blue-Bleach

Inhalation. The most common way for sulfuric acid to enter the body is through the respiratory system. Serious lung damage may result from inhalation exposure to sulfuric acid.

Contact with the Skin. Sulfuric acid can irritate the skin and cause chemical burns ranging from mild to severe, depending on the concentration of the sulfuric acid solution. Concentrated vapor or solution that contacts the skin may cause the victim to experience severe pain, redness of the skin, blisters and necrosis.

Contact with the Eyes. Sulfuric acid or sulfuric acid vapor, even with short-term exposure, can irritate the eyes and cause burning, swelling, tearing of the eyes and/or blurred vision, and may cause blindness. Ingestion. Immediate burning in the mouth and throat occur when sulfuric acid is swallowed.

Ingestion of concentrated solution can cause severe pain in the mouth, chest and abdomen, nausea and vomiting, or perforations in the esophagus.

Thanks for the replies guys :) I don't plan on applying it with my tongue, haha. I just didn't know if anyone had tried it before. Seems like it would be overkill but I was considering giving it a shot.

I'd be very curious to see what you come up with :D

I say just do what emperorvince suggested and get some PCB Etchant from radio shack, its a lot safer and i would imagine provide the same result since it contains hydrochloric acid. just wear rubber gloves, preferably a rubber apron and respirator also, and paint the edge of your knife with nail polish to protect it, any acid you go with will eat of the edge and it will be a pain in the butt to re-sharpen

^^This definitely.^^

I want to see you give it a go, War Eagle, although I might start off with something less expensive than a Becker. Maybe a Mora or a CS GI Tanto to experiment with first. That way if it screw the knife up, you won't be crying as hard.

Keep us updated. Don't get hurt. And post pics either way. :p

There is also the issue of what to do with the left overs. The disposal might cause an issue. Takes a lot to neutralize just dilute sulfuric. I play with 98% and it is rough on anything but plastic or stainless steel.
