I guess I need a little education on Microtechs. I have purchased a SOCOM off the forums. It is the M SOCOM. First off it is a SOCOM and as such I was under the mistaken impression that it was full sized(4"blade). I have owned one previous and the box and knife said SOCOM, so I naturally assumed it was a 4" bladed knife. If it was anything different should it state mini. I maybe incorrect in this line of thinking. Hence the education needed on my part. The knife I purchased is 7.25" long, which leads me to believe it is a 3" blade. Were the SOCOM's originall 3" blades? Thanks for the help and keep'em sharp

When originally advertised the indicator for the "mini" SOCOM was the "M" in front of the "SOCOM" (M-SOCOM) and the "regular" SOCOM was shown "SOCOM." Microtech did the same with their "UDT" line of knives (i.e., M-UDT and L-UDT). What I've been told. . .SOCOM's originall came with the 4.05" blades.

Here are the stat's of a M-SOCOM. . . OAL is 7.26", closed length at 4.06" and a blade length of 3.19".

You correct in your thinking that the knife should have been advertised as a "M-SOCOM" Vs. "SOCOM." If I would have purchased a "SOCOM" ~ I would have expected to receive a SOCOM with the an OAL is 9.11”, closed length at 5.1” and a blade length of 4.05".

I'll tell ya how ignorant I am about SOCOM's,I believe the knife was advertised as an M Socom. I thought and the seller thought it meant manual, as in maual opening. The knife is indeed 7.25" long. The check is enroute so I haven't recieved the knife yet. Totally bummed and don't even know why I started thinking about it being smaller than what I thought. Hope the guy is understanding. Keep'em sharp

The designator for a Microtech "manual" knife is "MA." For example, a manual mini SOCOM would be identified as "M-SOCOM MA." Since M-SOCOM's also can in auto form (not DA). They are designated as "M-SOCOM Auto."

"Regular" SOCOM's were produced in "manual" (MA) and in dual/double action (DA) forms.
LCC's are also produced in "MA" and "DA" forms. SOCOM Elites (SE's) were produced in "MA" and "Auto" (sorry. . .no DA's) forms.

Hope this helps. . .

I may want the mini-SOCOM. Is it serrated, silver finish, black finish, etc....

Thanks!

Longbow beat me to buying this knife, I saw it at 2:30 in the morning a couple days ago and stressed over whether I would buy it or not. I decided I would get it the next day if no one had bought it, but he had snatched it up at 6:45am! Agh! I don't wanna get it anymore, as I've decided to go for a different knife. But it was a NIB black plain edge.
