I have had many knives with G10, my favorite G10 is from Spyderco. My recent make Military and my large Chinese Lum both sport the same kind of G10. The G10 on a Manix 2 I just traded was also similar to the Military and Lum.

When I received my FFG Manix 2, it had a different type of G10 from my other Spydies. A slightly different look.

Am I just insane, or was there a subtle difference in the type of G10 used?

The G10 is simply a extra course variety as opposed to the standard, medium or fine. Nothing to be alarmed about. A visual comparison is all that is really needed. Lots of knives use different textures of G10, cold Steel uses extra course, Emerson uses what looks like fine texture.

Hi Hunter,

Most of our G-10 is made in the US and shipped out to some of our makers. On one of the Manix2 runs, we used a G-10 that was a little more coarse in texture than normal. We limited it to the one run so we didn't have different G-10 stock on the same model.

Fun fact. The texture is applied when the resin is setting by a plastic sheet with little bumps imprinted on it. When the scales are ready to be made, you peel off the sheet and the texture is revealed, hence the name Peel-Ply. :D

The polished G10 is really nice on the Bushcraft and my new Vallotton.
