Don't see much about the EE customs these days on this forum, but I have some info a lot of people may like to know. Called em the other day to check the status of my order and they said that EE was in the 600's on the invoice numbers. This may sound like you are light years away, but they assured me that now he has his prod side of the house running like a machine (pun intended), and is putting all his time in on his handmades. Don't know where this puts you, but as a frame of reference, I ordered in Nov 97 and my number is 1286. I figure maybe a couple more years, but who knows. Maybe now that he can get back to work on them he can crank em out at a better pace. Keeping my fingers crossed....jeff

I find it more than a bit disturbing to learn that EE is working in the 600's of his custom invoice numbers. My order for a CQC6 was placed in August of '95 and is invoice number 579! No word from Specwar. A good friend mentioned my number to Ernie at the Blade Show and was told that it was coming up very soon. I hope it hasn't been skipped over because I specified a few options on the knife. In any case, I was glad to hear that customs are again being made. I'm a former associate {displaying} member of the Guild and have handeled and examined thousands of tactical and art knives. I still believe that Emerson's tactical folders have the best feel for their intended use. I'm now just a bit nervous. User name is a soubriquet.

Last time I had a long talk with Ernie, he told me he would be working on the customs in batchs according to model types. So, one batch of CQC-6's, then a batch of -7s and so on. His shop setup is such that he is able to build a lot of knives without having to waste time on machine tool setup, so that is a time saver as well.

I, for one, am glad to hear that he is finally at the point where he can start making a dent in the huge backlog. He and Mary have both told me that their primary concern right now is trying to get knives out to the custom order holders, and now that the production side of the house is in full swing, he has a lot more time to devote to this.

Anyhow, look for regular updates on the status of the custom knife orders, and I hope you will have your knife soon.

Thanks for the info. I'm now less nervous. My ordered CQC6 has a partially serrated blade, checkered handle and all black. Where's that UPS truck? Thanks.

I thought that Emerson wasn't doing custom options anymore. I think all the CQC6's are standardized without the serrated bolster, green micarta scales and satin finished non-serrated blade. Recent CQC8's also do not have the black-T liners or black-T blade and just have plain flat G-10 scales.
Especially if he's trying to get all of the out in batches.
Anyone know about this?

Sincerely,

Jason Yang

How do the words: "custom" and "batches" coincide? When I talked to Mary a year ago, there seemed to be no problem getting Ernie to do a checkered handle, partially serrated and black blade. She even suggested black micarta and a black bolster. Now that he's actually doing the handmades, have things changed? Must I now be take delivery of one of a "batch" in order to receive my knife. Who knows?

I would guess that certain things, like basic blade shapes, and scale shapes can be done in batches, with the individual fitting and customizing being done when the knife is near completion. Seems like the logical thing to do, though I haven't seen this first hand so I wouldn't know.
