Can't you smell that smell ... er apologies to Lynard. Seriously though just got a new MT and it's awesome. What beauty and lines. I got the tiger finish, natch, and well IT SMELLS. Anyone else experience this? Any idea how long it lasts. My wife wants me to keep it in the garage as it does acutally permeate the room it is in. I assume this is from whatever makes the stripes striped?

A question: there are two standard finish's described on the website - tiger and aluminum oxide blast. The tiger finish appears to be a spray on coating. Any idea what it is? Is it on top of the standard "aluminum oxide blast". If you order, say a desert camo knife is the entire knife covered with a similar coating to the strips on the tiger one. Would this coating make the knife even more invulnerable to ****** salt water weather and such?

Just curious. I'll probably get another one soon ... I like it THAT much. I'll try to post some pix soon too.

the smell: mildew & rot treatment, plus some other chemical crap im sure, reffered to as: the new strider smell.
and no, it wont go away, not for a very long time, i walked through a swamp with my MH and it still kinda smells like it, well it also smells like swamp too now though, really gross.

but anyways, tiger stripes, theyre from heat treating, when the blades are heat treated they come back from Mr. Bos all black, then they blast off some of the black coating and leave some on.
they wont make it weather proof, although the only strider ive had rust, (i have like 6 or 7 now i think, cant remember) is my MH it got a couple spots on it after some prolonged exposure to water (think swamp for 2 days) plus i dont ussually oil my knives either so, that doesnt help much. even then, the rust came off with one swipe of a wet sos pad. and it never rusted the edge.
hope this helps
